The night the Red Raven rose, the kingdom fell.

Dawnfall: The Descent of Shadow is a top-down action-adventure in the spirit of the classic 2D Zeldas: explore, solve puzzles, find secrets and face bosses that you have to figure out, because nobody explains them to you.

You are a young squire of the Royal Guard of Alborada. On the night of the red comet, Aldric, the Royal Augur, betrays the crown: he kills Captain Rodrigo, your mentor, and bewitches the King before your eyes. Wounded, with the King's medallion clutched in your fist, you flee into the forest... and wake up in the hut of an old hermit.

What's in the demo

  • The Prologue: the Castle of Alborada and the Night of the Red Raven.
  • Chapter 1, the Forest of the Exiles: a village to help, a hedge maze, hidden caves and two bosses.
  • The Gardener, who really doesn't like visitors in his maze.
  • The Abyss Gargoyle, summoned by Aldric himself.

Played it? Tell me in the comments which boss gave you more trouble. I read every single one.

Features

  • Bosses without tutorials. Read their poses, the marks on the floor and the sounds. Work out their weakness yourself.
  • Sword, jump, bow and bombs, plus the powers of the talisman fragments.
  • Puzzles: pressure plates, logs, braziers, jumps over gaps and more.
  • Secrets everywhere: four heart pieces per level, buried treasure, cracked walls.
  • Chispa, a fox cub you rescue, who follows you and digs up treasure.
  • A village to help: errands, shops, fishing... and a grumpy old lady with a broom.

Tell me what you think!

This is a demo and the full game is still in development, so what you say here can change what comes next. I read every comment.

You don't need to write a review. One line is enough, and any of these helps a lot:

  • Which boss gave you more trouble: the Gardener or the Abyss Gargoyle?
  • Where did you get stuck or lost? Even for a minute.
  • Which secrets did you find? Did you get all four heart pieces in a level?
  • What do you want to see in the full game?

Found a bug? Tell me where it happened and I'll look into it. And if you enjoyed the demo, leaving a rating helps other players find it.

Fun, but have some questions. In my opinion AI cinematic too match stands out of main pixel art style. Maybe it will be better if it was like beginning cinematic of chapter 1. Also player char attack range too short. It not hard but not intuitive for me. When I think, he will hit enemy, he not. Also this mess to boss fights. I beat only Gardener boss, but I feel range issue already here. Boss have good timing to hit, but because player cant estimate attack it become little frustrating. But in general it was addictive gameplay. I like it
